Check Card

What exactly is a Check Card?

It's a service from the Farmers State Bank that allows you to use your checking account to pay for items without writing a check.  Your Check Card looks like a credit card, even has a VISA logo like a credit card, however, the money is deducted from your checking account balance.  You can also use this card at an ATM to withdraw/deposit money from/into your checking or savings account, transfer funds between checking and savings, make loan payments, or make balance inquiries on your checking or savings accounts.

How does a Check Card work?

You can use your Farmers State Bank Check Card anywhere VISA is accepted.  Simple hand the cashier your card, sign your name, and keep a copy of the receipt for your records.  There is no hassle of writing the check out and showing extra identification.  Each Check Card transaction will show up on your monthly statement including the amount, date the transaction was processed, and the place of the transaction.

Why use a Check Card?

There are a number of benefits of a FSB Check Card.  You can use the card anywhere VISA is accepted.  There are no hassles of carrying your checkbook, writing a check, or showing extra identification.  Your Check Card is safer to carry than cash and still gives you the flexibility of getting cash from an ATM any time you want.   Another benefit is your Check Card will be accepted far more readily than an out-of-state check.  Your FSB Check Card allows you access to your money 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year, at over a million ATM's worldwide.

Check Safekeeping

The Farmers State Bank of Waupaca is pleased to present Check Safekeeping - the convenient, safe alternative to storing your canceled checks at home.

What is Check Safekeeping?

Instead of sending your canceled checks along with your monthly statement, we record them on microfilm and store them at our bank.

If you should ever need a copy of a canceled check, we'll gladly provide it.  Just call (715) 258-1410 and a legally acceptable copy will be mailed to you in a few days.  You can receive six a year at no charge.

Check Safekeeping offers you safety and security.  Your canceled checks are stored at our bank where they're safe from theft, fire and other risks.

Do I need my canceled checks to balance by account?

Your paid checks are listed in check number order on your monthly statement.  This makes it easy to identify which checks are outstanding.  Your account can be balanced faster and easier from your monthly statement without actually referring to your paid checks.

Are my canceled checks needed as tax receipts?

While a canceled check is proof of payment, by itself, it is not a tax receipt.  We encourage you to consult a tax attorney or tax consultant with any tax questions you may have.

How much will it cost me to obtain a copy of my paid checks?

We will provide six (6) copies per year at no charge.  Each additional copy will cost $1.00 per copy.

What should I do if a payment dispute should occur?

Generally, any payment dispute with a merchant concerning payment of a bill would occur within the first month or two.  If that should happen, you may request a copy of your check from the bank.  If it is after that time we will be able to give you a legally acceptable copy.

How long will my checks be at the bank?

We will keep your original checks for 6 months, and copies of your checks on microfilm for 10 years after the checks are paid.  We are confident that once you've tried Check Safekeeping, balancing your checkbook will be easier and even more efficient.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call our Bookkeeping Department at (715) 258-1410.

Safe Deposit Boxes

Why is it important to have a Safe Deposit Box?

Many documents and valuables are not replaceable, and even when replacement is possible, the annoyance, inconvenience and expense can be considerable.   The cost of a Safe Deposit Box is small in comparison.  A Safe Deposit Box can protect your documents and valuables against theft, fire, or loss.

What is the procedure to open a Safe Deposit Box?

It's simple.  All you need to do is sign a rental agreement and provide adequate identification.  You are then assigned a box and given two keys.

Each time you wish to enter your box, you will sign a card.  Your signature is then compared to the signature on record for positive identification.   Then you have access to your box.

Can I have access to my Safe Deposit Box whenever I wish?

Yes, you can have access to your box anytime and as many times as necessary during our regular business hours.

Will I have complete privacy?

The Farmers State Bank offers a separate room for privacy.  You can use this room for as long as you need with your safe deposit box.   When you leave the room, the attendant will check to insure no valuables have been left behind.

Can anyone else gain access to my Safe Deposit Box?

No one else can gain access to your safe deposit box without your written authorization.  Anyone you authorize would also have to record his or her signature for positive identification.

What happens if I lose my keys?

If only one of the keys is lost, a $15.00 replacement fee is assessed.   Please be aware that if both keys are lost, a substantial fee is charged for drilling open the box.  The importance of keeping track of the safe deposit keys cannot be stressed enough.

Anyone finding you safe deposit keys would not be able to enter the box since his/her signature would not correspond to the signature on record.

Are the contents in a Safe Deposit Box Insured?

The contents of your Safe Deposit Box are not insured against loss by the Farmers State Bank of Waupaca.  For your own protection you may wish to obtain your own box content insurance from an Insurance Company of your choice.

You should also keep a complete, up-to-date list and description of all property stored in your Safe Deposit Box.  This inventory and any other proof of ownership documents should be stored in another location, other than your Safe Deposit Box.
